During 1981, the
management of Celamark recognized that a need existed, in the food service
industry, for a systematic and fast method of marking food product containers
with date labels to make possible timely rotation, thereby helping to ensure
freshness, reduce chances of food borne illness and help with food waste
reduction.
To
accomplish this, a special marking "gun" was designed to print, and quickly
dispense, a pressure sensitive label with a clearly imprinted date that could be
adhered to almost any container or package, using frozen food, removable or
permanent adhesive. Additionally, a day of the week color coding system was
added to provide fast visual recognition. In this manner, Celamark became the
pioneer in the development of better food rotation systems for the food service
industry.
The Celamark method
of food rotation and freshness control marking was soon adopted by many
of the major fast food chains and food service organizations and became
the standard method for the industry. It remains today as the most widely
used freshness control marking method.
Celamark
offers a choice of adhesives, frozen food adhesive, regular adhesive and
removable to be used depending on the application.
Celamark
date marking helps to reduce the risk of liability due to food borne illnesses.
It also helps to assure the quality and appearance of food served, by monitoring
freshness. The amount of investment required is very small but the rewards
are large.
In addition to
freshness control marking systems, Celamark also provides price marking
systems to a wide variety of retailers.
